Nationals Hobbling Down The Stretch Drop Their Fourth Straight

Nationals, Hobbling Down The Stretch, Drop Fourth Straight

Rough Loss To Mets

The Nationals' struggles continued on Wednesday night as they dropped their fourth straight game, this time to the New York Mets by a score of 5-2. Paolo Espino got the start for Washington and allowed three runs on seven hits over 4 1/3 innings. The bullpen was unable to hold the lead, as Brad Hand and Tanner Rainey combined to allow two more runs in the seventh inning.

The Nationals' offense was held in check by Mets starter Taijuan Walker, who allowed just one run on four hits over six innings. Josh Bell hit a solo home run in the fifth inning, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Mets' offensive outburst.

Playoff Hopes Fade

The loss drops the Nationals to 34-40 on the season, and their playoff hopes are all but gone. They are now 10 games behind the first-place Atlanta Braves in the NL East, and they are just 2.5 games ahead of the last-place Miami Marlins.

The Nationals have been one of the most disappointing teams in baseball this season, and their recent struggles have only made matters worse. They have now lost 18 of their last 24 games, and they are in danger of missing the playoffs for the third straight season.

Injuries Piling Up

The Nationals' struggles have been compounded by a number of injuries. Stephen Strasburg has been out all season with a shoulder injury, and Juan Soto is currently on the injured list with a hamstring injury. Trea Turner is also dealing with a hamstring injury, and he is day-to-day.

The Nationals are hoping to get some of their injured players back soon, but for now, they are struggling to field a competitive team. The next month will be critical for the Nationals, as they try to salvage their season and make a run at the playoffs.
