Fafá Picault, Stuart Armstrong, Yohei Takaoka lead Whitecaps over Earthquakes 2-0
Vancouver ends California road trip with 2nd straight win
Fafá Picault scored a goal in each half and Stuart Armstrong added another as the Vancouver Whitecaps beat the San Jose Earthquakes 2-0 on Saturday night.
It was the second straight win for the Whitecaps (4-6-3), who wrapped up a three-game road trip to California with four points.
The Earthquakes (3-4-6) have lost two straight and are winless in their last four.
Picault opened the scoring in the 25th minute, taking a pass from Armstrong and beating goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski to the far post.
Armstrong made it 2-0 in the 55th minute, finishing off a cross from Ryan Gauld.
Takaoka's late save secures win
The Earthquakes had a chance to get back in the game in the 75th minute, but Whitecaps goalkeeper Yohei Takaoka made a diving save on a shot by Jeremy Ebobisse.
Takaoka finished with four saves for his third shutout of the season.
The Whitecaps will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the Seattle Sounders in the first leg of the Canadian Championship semifinals.
The Earthquakes will host the LA Galaxy on Saturday.
