Australians to Vote on Indigenous Voice to Parliament

Subtle Title

Breaking News

Australians will vote later this year on a proposed constitutional amendment to recognize Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and establish a dedicated body, known as the Voice to Parliament, to represent their voices in decision-making.

The referendum question has been announced, asking voters to approve the following changes to the Constitution:

"Do you support an alteration to the Constitution that establishes an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice?"

If approved, the Voice would provide permanent representation and recognition for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian Parliament.

The Voice would be composed of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives elected from across the country. It would provide advice to the government on laws and policies affecting Indigenous Australians.

The referendum is expected to be held in the second half of 2023. The outcome will be determined by a majority of voters in a majority of states and the territories.
