Makhachev's Mastery: Makhachev Defeats Poirier, Retains Lightweight Title
Submission Submission Blocks Poirier's Dreams
Islam Makhachev once again proved his dominance in the UFC's lightweight division, as he submitted Dustin Poirier at UFC 302, held at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on June 1. Despite a valiant effort from Poirier, Makhachev's grappling prowess ultimately proved too much to overcome.
The fight began with Poirier attempting to keep the contest standing and avoid Makhachev's feared grappling skills. However, Makhachev was able to take Poirier down and secure a dominant position, eventually transitioning to a triangle choke that forced Poirier to tap out in the third round.
Makhachev's Reign Continues
With this victory, Makhachev successfully defended his lightweight title for the first time. He has now extended his winning streak to 12 fights and remains one of the most formidable fighters in the UFC.
