Frydenberg was born in Melbourne, Australia, in 1971. He began playing tennis at a young age and was a promising junior player. He reached the quarterfinals of the Australian Open junior tournament in 1989. Frydenberg turned professional in 1990 and played on the ATP Tour for several years. He reached a career-high ranking of 203 in singles and 145 in doubles.
Frydenberg retired from professional tennis in 1996 and entered politics. He was elected to the Australian House of Representatives in 2010 and served as treasurer from 2018 to 2022. Frydenberg is a member of the Liberal Party of Australia.
