NYC Man Sets Himself on Fire Outside Criminal Court

Victim Identified as Maxwell Azzarello, 30s, of Staten Island

Investigation Ongoing into Motive Behind Self-Immolation

New York City police have identified the man who set himself on fire outside the Manhattan Criminal Court on Friday as Maxwell Azzarello, a 30-year-old Staten Island resident.

Azzarello is currently in critical condition at a local hospital.

Witnesses reported that Azzarello was distributing conspiracy theory pamphlets in the park across the street from the courthouse before he poured gasoline on himself and lit it.

Police are investigating the incident and trying to determine Azzarello's motive. They have not yet released any information about the contents of the pamphlets.

This is the latest in a series of self-immolations that have occurred in New York City in recent years.

In 2017, a man set himself on fire in Central Park. In 2018, a woman set herself on fire in front of the United Nations building.

These incidents have raised concerns about the mental health of New Yorkers and the need for increased support for those who are struggling.

If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health issues, please reach out for help.
